E100 - What is Curcumin?

It is a food additive used to obtain a yellow-orange color to food. It is derived from some beets and turmeric roots.

It is one of the natural colorants. It is insoluble in water and acid, except ethanol and acetic acid. Due to its sensitivity to light, its use in foods is less than other colorants.

It is the main ingredient of curry spice. In addition, it is used in fats and oils, processed potatoes, meat products and cheeses.
