Determination of Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Determination of Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a widely used gas in the food and beverage industry. It is used in carbonation in soft drinks and in food packaging to extend the shelf life of the product. With this process, which is also called as Modified Atmosphere Packaging, it is aimed to extend the shelf life of foods by disconnecting them from oxygen.

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) can be used for many different purposes in the food industry.
  • Controlled Atmosphere and Modified Atmosphere packaging to increase shelf life of foods
  • As Freezing Liquid to cool and store food as it evaporates
  • Separating caffeine from coffee and obtaining β-carotene from carrots
  • In the production of carbonated beverages such as cola and soda
The amount of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) that can be used in foods is subject to certain conditions with the Turkish Food Codex - Purity Criteria Communiqué on Additives Except Colorants and Sweeteners Used in Food. Carbon dioxide (CO2), which is classified as generally safe according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has no known toxic effects.
